Arcoxia is a drug prescribed against osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, chronic musculoskeletal pain and gouty arthritis. The drug is prescribed only after other drugs have failed to give you relief from the above-mentioned conditions.
Belonging to a group of medicines known as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitors, Arcoxia gives you relief by blocking COX-2, an enzyme in the body that causes pain.
Once Arcoxia is prescribed, you have to strictly follow the doctor’s direction. Do not take larger doses or use the drug for longer periods unless your doctor has prescribed it. Never break in the middle of a course as it can only worsen your condition. The recommended dosage for osteoarthritis is 60 milligram a day, for rheumatoid arthritis it is 90 mg, for ankylosing spondylitis, it is 90 mg, for gout attacks, it is 120 mg once a day and for chronic musculoskeletal pain, the recommended dosage is 60 milligram daily.
Always take the correct dosage at the right time and never miss any dose. In case you miss a dose, take the drug before the next scheduled dose. But take care not to use the missed dose if it is time for your regular dosage. Do not take two doses of Arcoxia at the same time.
You have to be careful against all your allergic reactions while taking Arcoxia. It is better to inform the doctor if you have any allergies to aspirin or any other anti-inflammatory medicines.
You should also inform the doctor if you have these medical conditions like:
history of angina, blocked artery, heart attack, narrow or blocked arteries of the extremities, liver or kidney disease and high blood pressure. If you have any of these allergic reactions or medical conditions, your doctor may adjust the doses and recommend regular tests.
If pregnant or intend to get pregnant, you have to talk to your doctor about all the risks and benefits of the drug before he prescribes it. Though it is not known if Arcoxia passes into breast milk, breast-feeding mothers should have to talk with the doctor before feeding their new born.
Some medicines may interact with Arcoxia and so better tell your doctor about all the medicines like prescriptive medicines, vitamins, minerals, herbal drugs and diet supplements. You should also tell your doctor if you use warfarin (drug for blood clots), rifampicin, (antibiotic to treat tuberculosis), diuretics, angiotensin receptor blockers, ACE inhibitors and medicines against high blood pressure, lithium (medicine used to treat certain types of depression) methotrexate (medicine used to suppress immune system) and birth control pills.
As like other drugs, Arcoxia also comes with many side effects. Some of the mild side effects with Arcoxia are dizziness, nausea, heartburn, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, swelling (legs, ankles feet), headache, rashes, taste alteration, insomnia, mouth ulcers and hallucinations.
Well, you should also be careful and contact your doctor immediately if you come across some of the serious side effects like swelling (face, lips, throat, tongue), difficulty in swallowing/breathing, heart failure, abnormal rhythm of heart, palpitations, kidney or liver problems, stomach pain and stomach ulcers.
Etoricoxib is an ingredient which is found in the Arcoxia and it belongs to the medicine family which non-inflammatory and anti-steroidal. This medicine block the reaction which is known as cyclo oxinigase and in a result of any swear wound or injury it may cause the prostaglandins. These prostaglandins can cause the inflammation or pain on that part of the body but as it is discussed that Arcoxia control the production of the prostaglandins so it helps to reduces pain and inflammation as well. Prostaglandins produce by the cyclo oxinigase is not only harmful for the body in form of pain but it plays important role too. Two types of the cyclo oxinigase are found as COX-1 and COX-2. COX-2 is the cyclo oxinigase which is responsible of such problems but the other type COX-1 helps for other body scenario like intestine lining and health of the stomach. Old NSAID medicines had this disadvantage that they blocks the both type of the cyclo oxinigase and in this way the COX-1 type does not work. In this way patient suffers from the medicine side effect as ulcer and stomach disease. So Arcoxia is far better than the previous medicine used for the same purpose but lead to some side effects. It is an alarming situation for those users who are doing some attention seeking work such as driving or operating machine. COX-2 type is also causing ulceration, bleeding or side effects on guts but mostly it is happened in old age patients. Children are not favorable for this medicine and moreover it is also not recommended pregnant women, heart patient, blood pressure and swelling of lips and throat. Use of this medicine in pregnancy may affect the labor, labor can be prolong, complicate or delay can e occur. Discuss with your doctor while you are taking some other medicine along with Arcoxia because it may cause bleeding, allergy or ulceration problem. Overall it is a better remedy as a pain killer.
