Aromasin is generically known as exemstane. This drug reduces the level of estrogen in postmenopausal females, which may slow down the growth of some types of tumors in the breast that require estrogen for their growth in the body.
Aromasin is used for the treatment of breast cancer in women who have undergone menopause. It is often recommended for those females whose cancer has progressed even after radiation, surgery or other anticancer drugs have been used without success.
How To Use
Take this drug orally generally once every day after food or as instructed by your doctor. The dosage is predicated on the response to therapy, medical condition and other drugs you are using. Use this drug regularly to gain the maximum benefit. Take it at the same time daily, so that it becomes easy for you to remember. As this medicine may be absorbed through the lungs or skin, women who may become pregnant or who are pregnant should not handle this drug or breathe the dust from the medicine. The doctor may suggest you to take frequent blood tests during the use of this medicine.
Seek medical help if you observe any symptoms of allergies to aromasin such as difficult breathing, swollen lips/tongue/face/throat, hives, and skin rashes. Hair loss, hot flashes, joint pain, abnormal sweating, muscle pain, trouble sleeping, bone pain, dizziness, tiredness and diarrhea may commonly occur. Tell your doctor immediately if you see any adverse side effects like: vaginal bleeding, bone fractures, mental changes, mood swings, abnormal tiredness, yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine, vomiting, persistent nausea. This drug may rarely cause fatal problems from blood clots like stroke or heart attack. Get emergency medical help if you observe: pain in left arm, confusion, blood in cough, sudden shortness of breath, dizziness, sudden fainting, sleep problems, swelling/pain/warmth in calf/groin, abnormal bone pain, mild exertion, increased appetite, chest pain, slurred speech, weakness/tingling/numbness in legs/arms, jaw pain, one-sided weakness, swollen legs or arms, severe headache, vision disturbances.
Before the intake of exemestane, let your doctor know if you have any allergies to it or any inactive ingredients present in it. Tell your doctor or druggist about your medical history, particularly of: bone problems like osteoporosis, osteopenia, high blood cholesterol or fats, blood clots, stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disorders, kidney problems, chest pain, heart failure, heart attack.
