What is the medication for?
Lexapro is a medication for treating depression and other mood problems. It may take you up to 4 weeks or longer before you start feeling better.
What should I inform my health care provider before I start to take this medicine?
Your doctor should be informed immediately if you have any of the following condition:
* kidney or liver disease
* heart disease
* receive electroconvulsive therapy
* previous suicidal attempts
* allergic reaction to any ingredient in Lexapro
* pregnant or planning to get pregnant
How is this medicine taken?
Lexapro tablets are taken by mouth. Keep to the directions on the label. Swallow Lexapro tablets with some water. You can take Lexapro with or without food. If Lexapro causes stomach disorder, taking the drug with food may prevent it. The doses should be taken at regular intervals. Do not use your medicine more frequent than prescribed. Do not discontinue taking the drug unless your healths care professional advises you.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
Skip it if it is almost time for your next dose and go on your regular schedule.
What drugs may interact with Lexapro?
It is not recommended to take Lexapro with any of the listed medications:
* MAO inhibitors such as isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine, selegiline, phenelzine.
* certain diet drugs
* kava kava
* medicines used for treating HIV or AIDS
* medicines for treating mood problems
* medicines used for treating headache (eletriptan, almotriptan, , naratriptan, frovatriptan rizatriptan, zolmitriptan, sumatriptan)
* pain relievers (oxycodone, codeine, meperidine, hydrocodone, tramadol, morphine)
Tell your health care professional if you take any of these medications all any other medications not listed above. They may interfere with the action of Lexapro.
What are the possible side effects that may be caused by Lexapro?
Serious side effects caused by Lexapro include:
* difficulty sleeping
* blurred vision
* dry mouth
* frequent urination
* appetite changes
* excess sweating
* decreased sexual ability or desire
* weight changes
Contact your doctor immediately if any of them apply to you.
Rare side effects include:
* itching,skin rash, hives
* suicidal behavior
More common side effects are the following: anxiety, agitation or restlessness.
They usually do not represent threat for your health, but talk to you physician if they persist.
