Creon

CREON

Creon (pancrelipase) is a medicine used to treat people who cannot digest food normally because their pancreas does not make enough enzymes due to cystic fibrosis.

Creon

Creon is the brand name for Pancrelipase. It is formed by mixing 3 enzymes lipase, protease and amylase. It is very important for digestion of proteins, fats and sugar.

Creon basically helps in replacing these enzymes when the body needs it.

Mechanism of action (MOA)

Creon when taken orally it works by releasing enteric coated spheres in the stomach that is 0.7 and 1.6 mm in diameter. They allow the sphere to go beyond the low ph of the stomach into the small intestine. It then dissolves into the small intestine releasing the pancreatic enzyme to mix with food. As in small intestine it breaks down the enzymes into fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
