Creon is the brand name for Pancrelipase. It is formed by mixing 3 enzymes lipase, protease and amylase. It is very important for digestion of proteins, fats and sugar.
Creon basically helps in replacing these enzymes when the body needs it.
Mechanism of action (MOA)
Creon when taken orally it works by releasing enteric coated spheres in the stomach that is 0.7 and 1.6 mm in diameter. They allow the sphere to go beyond the low ph of the stomach into the small intestine. It then dissolves into the small intestine releasing the pancreatic enzyme to mix with food. As in small intestine it breaks down the enzymes into fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
Uses of Creon

3) Chronic inflammation of the pancreas
4) Surgical removal of pancreas
5) Cancer of pancreas
Creon replaces the enzymes like ftas and proteins from the body in certain diseases.
Dosage and Administration
The medicine is taken with food and snacks. As the medicine is in a tablet form swallow it as a whole. Do not crush or chew it. As it will change the course of the medicine and will irritate the mouth.
Dosage is based on the patient's weight, diet, and response to the treatment. The doctor will increase or decrease the dose as your body adjust to it. Also if the medicine is difficult to swallow please mix it with water and finish.

Precautions and Warning
Tell your full personal and family history to your doctor. If you have any allergy or pork allergy please tell your doctor about it. Also if you have any long term disease like diabetes or gout or any kidney or lung disease. Tell your doctor in advance before taking Creon.
Pregnancy and Breast-Feeding
It is not known on both accounts if this medicine should be taken during pregnancy and during nursing. Take only after consulting with your doctor.
Some drugs interacts with creon and change the course of the medicine. Therefore drugs should not be taken before consulting your physician. Drugs like miglitol and acarbose are few of them. Possible risk of adverse effects if it is continued without consulting the doctor.
