Glaucoma is a condition characterized by elevated pressure within the eye, which can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss if left untreated. Trusopt works by reducing the production of fluid within the eye, thereby lowering intraocular pressure.

Trusopt is available in the form of eye drops, and it is typically applied directly into the affected eye(s).

How to use

To use Trusopt (dorzolamide) eye drops, follow these steps:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling the eye drops.
  2. Remove the cap from the Trusopt bottle.
  3. Tilt your head back slightly or lie down on a flat surface, such as a bed or sofa, and look up at the ceiling.
  4. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  5. With your other hand, hold the bottle upside down and squeeze it gently to release one drop into the pocket of your lower eyelid. Be careful not to touch your eye or eyelashes with the dropper tip, as it may cause contamination.
  6. Close your eyes gently for a moment to allow the medication to spread evenly over the surface of the eye.
  7. If you need to use Trusopt in both eyes, repeat the steps above for the other eye.
  8. Recap the bottle tightly immediately after use to prevent contamination and ensure the sterility of the eye drops.
  9. If you are using other eye medications as well, wait at least 10 minutes between applying Trusopt and any other eye drops to prevent interactions between different medications.
  10. Wash your hands again to remove any residue from the eye drops.

Dosage

Here are some general dosage guidelines for Trusopt:

Open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension:

  • The usual recommended dosage is one drop of Trusopt in the affected eye(s) three times a day.
  • The eye drops are typically applied every 8 hours, approximately 3 times per day.

Special considerations:

  • If you are using other eye medications along with Trusopt, it is important to wait at least 10 minutes between administering different eye drops.
  • If you are using Dorzolamide in combination with another eye drop medication that also contains dorzolamide, the total daily dose of dorzolamide should not exceed the recommended amount.

It is important to use Trusopt regularly and as prescribed to obtain the maximum benefit. If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
